I've stumbled into some kind of twisted conspiracy. Tonight, I followed Matt to a cabin in the mountains, supposedly to spy on Aaron. But it was all a lie.

I watched from my car as Matt met Aaron at the cabin. They greeted each other like old friends, completely contradicting Matt's story about Aaron being a con man who stole from him. As if that wasn't shocking enough, Al showed up too. The three of them sat down for a friendly game of poker, drinking and smoking like they didn't have a care in the world.

What the heck is going on in this town? Everyone seems to be in on some big secret. Alma with her ridiculous stories about my grandmother, Matt with his lies about Aaron, and now this secret meeting with the cop who's supposed to be investigating Will's murder.

I feel like I'm losing my mind. Who can I trust? I called Peter, hoping he's not involved in whatever this is. He's on his way over now. I pray I made the right choice in reaching out to him.

One thing's for sure: I can't just sit back and pretend this isn't happening. I need to find out the truth, no matter how dangerous it might be. My gut tells me Will's murder is just the tip of the iceberg. There's something rotten in Mt. Pleasant, and I'm going to get to the bottom of it.

God help me.

I paced the living room, my nerves frayed to breaking point. Every creak of the cabin made me jump, and Rex's watchful eyes followed my every move. The minutes crawled by like hours.

Finally, the sound of tires on gravel pierced the silence. I froze, my heart pounding. I crept to the window, peering through a gap in the curtains, but I was relieved to see Peter's car. He stepped out, glancing around warily before approaching the cabin.

A soft knock at the door made me flinch. I took a deep breath, steadying myself. This was it. I had to trust someone, and Peter was my best bet.

I opened the door, ushering him inside quickly. "Thanks for coming," I whispered, locking the door behind him.

Peter's brow furrowed with concern. "Jane, what's going on? You sounded terrified on the phone."

I led him to the living room, sinking onto the couch. Where to even begin? The words tumbled out in a rush. "I saw something tonight. Matt, Aaron, and Al... they were all together at Aaron's cabin. Playing poker, drinking beer like old buddies."

Peter's eyes widened. "What? But Matt said—”

"I know what Matt said," I cut him off. "He lied. They all lied.”

I watched his face carefully, searching for any sign of deceit. But all I saw was genuine shock and confusion.

"Tell me everything," he said, leaning forward.

So I did. I spilled it all—the strange encounters, Alma's deception, and finally, what I'd witnessed at Aaron's cabin. Peter listened intently, his expression growing more troubled with each revelation.

When I finished, he ran a hand through his hair.
